Rep. Stanley Announces $300,000 State Grant for Wayside Trail Project

The City of Waltham received $300,000 in MassTrails grant funds for design, engineering and permitting of the Waltham Wayside Trail project, a 2.74 mile paved shared-use path connecting with the existing trail at Edge Hill Road and extending East to Beaver Street. The project includes seven roadway treatments, the reuse/restoration of two bridges (Linden Street Bridge & Timber Trestle Bridge) and a new accessible walkway connection from Linden Street. The proposed Waltham Wayside Trail is part of the regional 23-mile Wayside Trail and the greater Statewide Mass Central Rail Trail.

MassTrails provides grants to support recreational trail and shared use pathway projects across the state. Grant amounts are dependent on the project and its needs, but generally range from $10,000 to $100,000 with grants of up to $300,000 awarded to high priority projects. Eligible grant activities include project development, design, engineering, permitting, construction, and maintenance of recreational trails, shared use pathways, and the amenities that support trails.
