Funding Transportation Costs for Homeless Students

Funding Transportation Costs for Homeless Students:

A state mandate requires Waltham and communities across the Commonwealth to pay the costs of transporting homeless students residing in state subsidized local hotels with their families back to their school of origin if they choose. This unfunded mandate places an unfair financial burden on cities and towns.

As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Stanley created a new $11 million dollar line item to fully funding the transportation cost to reimburse communities for these costs. Cuts to the state budget reduced this important line item but Rep. Stanley is working to restore the funding.
