Guest Column: Domestic violence services need increased funding

After two high-profile domestic violence cases in my district, including one domestic violence homicide, as well as several others across the state in 2013, it is imperative that the Legislature address the issue of domestic and sexual violence by increasing funding in the fiscal 2015 state budget. On Beacon Hill, the budget process has begun and I am lobbying other budget decision makers to include additional funding to raise awareness of and prevent domestic and sexual violence. An increase in funds is needed to provide the community-based sexual and domestic violence programs the resources they need to provide the life-saving and life-changing services to those who have experienced sexual and domestic violence.
