Waltham City Council moves Fernald purchase forward
The City Council gave a nod of approval to Mayor Jeannette McCarthy Monday night, permitting her to sign off on terms set by the state for the acquisition of the Fernald land. Next stop: the state legislature. The state is offering the land, at 200 Trapelo Road, and most of its amenities to the city for $3.7 million. The council voted in favor of giving McCarthy permission to accept the terms 12-0. Waltham’s state delegation – Reps. Thomas Stanley, D-Waltham, and John Lawn, D-Watertown, and Sen. Mike Barrett, D-Lexington – will now be tasked with convincing the legislature that this deal is in the state’s best interest. Read full article.
