Announcement for Waltham Residents

Dear Friend,

Serving as your state representative on Beacon Hill is an incredible honor and privilege. Working to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our community, seeing the results of this effort and the positive impact this work has had on so many people is amazing. But, our work is not done. I have more to contribute to make Waltham and Lincoln even better.

Throughout my tenure in the legislature, I have balanced fiscal responsibility while prioritizing support for programs and policies that improve our lives and strengthen our community. As a member of the Joint Ways and Means Committee, I helped to create a budget which builds upon the successful efforts between the Baker-Polito Administration and the Legislature to bring state spending in line with revenue growth, reduce our reliance upon one-time budget solutions, avoid tax increases and limit Stabilization Fund withdrawals. We did this while delivering millions of dollars of local aid, road repair and public education funding to municipalities.

Also through the state budget process, I have re-directed thousands – and in some cases, millions of dollars – in funding through amendments supporting such programs as the Waltham Tourism Council, the Hardy Pond restoration, Fragile Beginnings for premature babies and domestic violence and shelter support services among others.

Over my years of service, I have been proud to work with our state delegation and local officials for Waltham’s best interest. Together, we have:

-Received among the highest bond ratings for state and municipalities across the country
-Created a new budget line item to fund municipal school transportation for homeless children
-Passed legislation to protect open space in the Western Greenway
-Transferred control of the Fernald property to Waltham preventing overdevelopment
-Redirected millions in a bond bill for the UMass-Waltham Urban Center for Sustainability
-Fought unwanted charter schools from diverting monies from Waltham Public Schools
-Reformed school building financing, saving state taxpayers millions while directing over $200 million for Waltham schools.
-Funded the Charles River Walk and remodeling of the Connors Pool in Waltham
-Increased funding for Council On Aging servicing our seniors

The most rewarding part of the job is assisting the hundreds of people who have contacted me through the years with their personal or family struggles. And, most recently, it has been an honor to work with you all as we struggle to tangle our state’s fight against addiction and the stigma that comes with it.

Waltham and Lincoln need an experienced and effective State Representative that has demonstrated leadership and accomplishment at the state and local level. In this year’s election, I ask for your support and vote so that we can continue to move forward and build stronger and safer communities for everyone.

To kick off my campaign, I invite you to join me at Shoppers Cafe at 731 Moody Street in Waltham on Wednesday, June 15 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. More details coming soon!

Sincerely,

Tom Stanley
