Rep. Stanley Reappointed to Chair of Elder Affairs Committee

Files Legislation to Protect Seniors and Improve Quality of Care

On February 16, Rep. Stanley was reappointed to chair of the Elder Affairs Committee. He recently unveiled three priority pieces of legislation which aim to improve the quality of care for older adults across the Commonwealth: HD2564 – An Act to improve quality and oversight of long-term care; HD2201 – An Act to improve Massachusetts home care; and HD2225 – An Act authorizing commonsense health services in assisted living. These bills were developed during the previous legislative session by the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs, which is co-chaired by Rep. Stanley. Each bill provides solutions to critical challenges facing older adults along the continuum of care.

HD2564 was filed in partnership with Rep. Lipper-Garabedian (D-Melrose) and takes a comprehensive approach to regulating the long-term care industry, addressing crucial reforms in transparency and oversight for nursing homes. HD2201 was filed in partnership with Rep. Michael Moran (D-Brighton) and establishes a licensure process for home care agencies with the goal of improving standards and preventing the abusive treatment of home care workers, personal care attendants, and consumers. HD2225 was filed in partnership with Rep. Smitty Pignatelli (D-Lenox) and would give assisted living facilities the option to provide basic health services by a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with written approval from the Executive Office of Elder Affairs.
